Compton (Comp) I. White

Former U.S. Rep. Compton (Comp) I. White, Jr., 77, passed away Oct. 19, 1998 at Bonner General Hospital in Sandpoint, Idaho. An open memorial service will be held at the Clark Fork Senior Center on Saturday, Oct. 24, at 2 p.m. Memorials can be made to Bonner General Hospital. Comp was born on Dec. 19, 1920 to Compton and Josephine White at Sacred Heart Hospital in Spokane, Wash. He grew up in both North Idaho and Washington, D.C., where his father was a U.S. Congressman. He attended the University of Idaho and worked as a flight design engineer for Boeing Aircraft during World War II. Comp maried Florence E. Waddell on Nov. 19, 1948. He was active in mining and ranching in Clark Fork, Idaho, where he also raised his family. Comp was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in 1962 and reelected in 1964. He was appointed to the Bonner General Hospital Association in 1969 and served until his death. He was also active in the Idaho and American Hospital Associations in the 1980s. He was preceded in death by his wife in 1987. He is survived by his children, (Private); fourteen grandchildren, one great-grandson and his companion for the past 10 years, Jean Nolan of Spokane.
