Arthur "Art" Chubb, Sr., 78, former fire chief

Longtime Sandpoint resident Arthur "Art" Chubb Sr. died Nov. 10 at Sandpoint Manor. He was 78. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 14, at Moon Chapel with the Rev. Kale King of the St. Agnes Episcopal Church officiating. Interment will follow at Pinecrest Memorial Park. Mr. Chubb was born March 4, 1906 at Cumberland, Wis., and moved to the Sandpoint area in 1925. He married Vi Turpin Nov. 10, 1934 at Sandpoint, and she preceded him in death in 1981. Mr. Chubb worked for the Sandpoint City Fire Department from 1946 until he retired as fire chief in 1971. A member of the Lions Club, he helped with the fireworks at the annual Fourth of July celebration at Memorial Field, worked on the Sandpoint City Beach and helped start Sandpoint's Toys for Tots campaign. Survivors include (Private); two sisters, Clara Evans of Sandpoint and Catherine Young of Cumberland, Wis.; one brother, Pat Chubb of Mountain Home, Idaho; 12 grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
