M35 is an open cluster which is easy to see
through binoculars.
Other Deep Sky Objects
The planetary nebula NGC 2392 is also known
as the Eskimo Nebula and is just visible through a small telescope.

- Castor appears as a binary through a small
telescope but is actually a six-star system.

- Pollux is a
first magnitude star and actually is
brighter than Castor.

- Mekbuda is a Cepheid variable with a period of
around 10 days.

- Propus is a pulsating red giant. W. Herschel
discovered the planet Uranus on 13 March 1781 near this star.
Although few leave trains, the medium-speed
Geminids are nearly as colourful as the
Perseids in
Perseus. This shower is unusual
in that it is associated with the minor planet
3200 Phaeton
instead of a comet. The radiant is near the star
Castor.
