NOTES

Mathias Fagot was the son of Francois Fagot and Catherine Noel, and he had eight siblings. The Fagot family sailed to the United States in 1847. This voyage lasted 66 days and the provisions had been exhausted before the ship made landfall in New Orleans. On 21 September 1861, Mathias Fagot enlisted for three years in Company B, 39th Illinois Volunteer Infantry, but he was taken prisoner on 1 May 1862 at Strasburg, Virginia. He was later paroled and exchanged, and on account of a disability, received an honourable discharge on 18 June 1862.

The original name of Lexington, Nebraska, was Plum Creek.
